What is PBSA Accreditation?

The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) is a global organization that sets high standards for background screening. The PBSA General Background Screening Accreditation Program evaluates and recognizes companies that follow best practices. This involves a detailed review of our policies, procedures, and operations through a desk audit and a virtual audit.

The Accreditation Process

Each year, employers, organizations, and governmental agencies worldwide request millions of background screening reports regulated by data privacy and employment laws.

PBSA created the BSOAP to establish a compliant, cohesive industry standard. This widely recognized seal signifies a background screening organization’s commitment to excellence and high professional standards.

The BSCC oversees the accreditation process. To become accredited, organizations must pass a comprehensive audit of their documentation and operations, covering six critical areas: Information Security, Legal and Compliance, Client Education, Third-Party Service Providers, Verification Services Standards, and Business Practices.

Accreditation is valid for five years, with an Interim Surveillance Audit at three years and full accreditation after five years, ensuring continued adherence to the highest standards.
